Laura Vargas Llanas is the creative force behind KANICA, a collection of bespoke decorative fibre pieces.
Revisiting traditional weaving and embroidery techniques and influenced by the likes of Agnes Martin, Alexander Calder, Henri Matisse, the Bauhaus Movement and Modernist Design, her creations are a hybrid of artisanal skills and modern aesthetics. Working primarily with yarn - merino, alpaca and cotton, the results are colourful and unique works of art.
Laura currently lives and works between Madrid and Paris. She has a Bachelor’s degree in History of Art and a Master’s degree in Modern and Contemporary Art. She has previously worked at Christie’s, Carpenters Workshop Gallery and Il Cigno GG Edizioni.
